Welcome to Waterford Counselling and CBT, the website of Donagh Ward, a fully qualified and accredited counsellor and CBT practitioner based in the South East. The purpose of this site is to allow you to find out about counselling and psychotherapy, the services that I offer, where I am based and how to contact me.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy to individuals who perhaps feel that counselling would be of benefit to them. I meet with people who may have encountered distressing or stressful experiences or situations which they'd like to talk about in a confidential setting. There are many different reasons why someone might go to therapy. These might include present circumstances such as bullying, grief, sexuality issues, workplace difficulties, self esteem problems, dysfunctional relationships or major life transitions. Somebody else might talk to a counsellor to discuss and explore past issues like childhood and family experiences.
Others may seek help in dealing with specific psychological or behavioural characteristics which they'd like to do something about, such as addictions to alcohol or drugs, compulsive thoughts or difficulties relating to people and some seek therapy to help them explore uneasy sentiments that their lives are not quite right, or to cope with overwhelming feelings of anxiety or depression.
More come to therapy as part of their effort to create or discover meaning in their lives. Many people are attracted to counselling as an opportunity to embark upon personal development in a safe and supportive environment: it isn't necessary to have an 'issue' or a 'problem' to find counselling and psychotherapy useful.
My style of counselling combines Person Centred Therapy with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). I abide by the code of ethics as laid out by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and all counselling is confidential within the law.
